Dentist in St Helens Merseyside
We have been caring for the population of St. Helens for nearly 100 years and some of our youngest patients are fifth generation patients from those first days of the practice on Westfield Street.
The practice is owned and run by Chris Williams who also still practices here on a daily basis so he is always available to help with any problems that might occur.
We are not part of a large chain of corporate dentists so we understand the needs of the local population.
We listen to your requirements and will work with you to achieve your goals for your dental treatment whether it is just an extraction to relieve pain all the way up to that perfect smile you have always wanted.
We believe passionately in the NHS and that high quality dental care is not just the preserve of private dentistry.
Our main philosophy is that the cornerstone to a healthy mouth is education and prevention.
Our services include:
Routine dental check-ups and treatments, including fillings, crowns and bridges and extractions.
Our dedicated hygienists provide education, effective, high quality treatments and preventative individual tailored oral hygiene regimes to manage gum disease.
We also offer modern cosmetic dentistry treatments to improve the appearance of your smile, including porcelain veneers and tooth whitening.
For patients with missing teeth a variety of solutions are available including dental implants, bridges or dentures.

A letter from Chris Williams, Principal Dentist
In line with Government guidelines, our practice will re-open on Monday 8th June. We are all aware that COVID -19 has changed the way we live and this has also had major implications on how we can deliver our dental services in a safe manner.
In order to protect our patients and staff we are adhering to strict NHS, CQC and Faculty of General Dental Practice guidelines. This involves social distancing measures in the practice and adopting the highest standards of cross-infection control. Initially, these changes will restrict the number of patients we can see and also the treatment we can offer.
We plan a staged re-opening in order to help those most at need first.
PHASE ONE: Registered patients who contacted with dental problems during the shutdown or patients currently requiring urgent treatment. Treatment will be limited since we will not be able to carry out any Aerosol Generating Procedures (e.g. drilling, ultrasonic scaling, polishing of teeth) due to the current lack of adequate PPE. We will only be able to offer remedial treatment such as prescriptions, advice, temporary fillings, extractions and some types of recementing crowns/bridges.
PHASE TWO: Introduction of AGPs (fillings, recement crowns/bridges, root canals). During this phase priority will be given to patients who had outstanding work prior to the shutdown. There will still be restrictions on the services we can offer and it may be necessary to alter the planned treatment from before the shutdown. However, your dentist will discuss any changes with you.
PHASE THREE: Resumption of routine treatment including check-ups.
The timings of these phases will depend on the availability of PPE but also the prevalence of Coronavirus, social distancing advice, Government guidelines etc. but we aim to resume a normal service as soon as possible.
The announcement that the NHS wanted dental practices to open on 8th June came without warning (in fact my wife saw it on BBC news first & told me!!). Since the announcement last week, the staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that we could open on time while providing a safe environment to work and treat patients in.
The changes we have had to adopt are wide-ranging from introducing social distancing to levels of PPE which we never thought would be required in dentistry. To give an example – once we have performed an AGP such as a filling, the treatment room has to be left empty for 1 hour to ensure the risk of Covid-19 is minimised. This will undoubtably result in increased waiting times to be seen and to receive treatment.
Please be patient with us.
We will prioritise emergencies and get you seen quickly to ensure you are not in pain or risk of further problems but I would ask you to respect my staff, especially on reception who will be trying their hardest to help you.
There are considerable changes to how patients should attend the practice in order to ensure social distancing and these can be found on this page.
In line with current recommendations the doors to the surgery will remain locked and only patients with appointments will be permitted to enter. All enquiries for appointments must be made by telephone on 01744 23677.
At this time we can only offer treatment to registered patients at the practice.
Thank you for your understanding,
Chris Williams BDS MJDFRCS (Eng) MSc (Dental Implantology)
What our patients say......
I was treated with the greatest of respect and professionalism by the dentist and their Dental Nurse. My treatment was of the highest quality and was carried out quickly and delicately leaving me feeling at ease throughout the procedures
The patience, skill and attitude of all the staff to my obvious anxiety and distress, enabled me to visit the dentist 3 times and the hygienist 3 times for treatment. My teeth, gums and general oral hygiene is now the best it has been for many, many years
Corner Dental Surgery is a 'breath of fresh air'. The staff are friendly, efficient and put you at ease immediately. You are treated with dignity throughout and I now never give visiting the dentist a second thought
